Singapore to build Himachal town

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government and the Singapore government will jointly build a modern town at Jathiadevi near Shimla.

The two government’s signed a MOU on Monday here in the presence of Minister of Trade and Industry Singapore S Iswaran and Himachal Urban Development minister Sudhir Sharma. High Commissioner of India to Singapore Jawed Ashraf was also present.

Director Singapore Corporation Enterprise Kevin Chong and Umesh Sharma Chief Engineer HIMUDA signed the pact.

The township will come up on around 400 bighas.Jathia Devi is only 17 km from the state capital Shimla and also very close to the airport.

The government spokesman however did not reveal how much it will cost and by when the township will be built.

Due to steep mountain terrain Shimla has very limited flat area for further construction of buildings. The available area is congested with concrete for long.
