Manali-Leh road reopens in Himachal

Shimla : The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has repaired the damaged road between Manali and the Rohtang pass Monday and traffic has started moving on the 480 km long high altitude Manali-Leh road .

On Aug 3 flash floods washed off a 25 metre section of the road near Dhundi 20 km from Manali . Two bailey bridges were also washed away . A man was also killed after his car was swept away by the gushing waters .

The BROs alone suffered a loss of about Rs 15 crore as its vehicles and equipment was washed away into the Beas .

Amitabh Awasthi , district collector Kullu said traffic has started plying on this route after the BROs carried out restoration work on a war footing .

Scores of vehicles including those of tourists were stuck between the Rohtang pass and Manali since the past three days .
