Shimla : The Himachal Pradesh Medical Officers Association (HMOA) on Monday called off their strike after assurance from the Himachal Pradesh government that it will look into their demands.

This association consists of 80 per cent doctors serving in the state’s health department. Those on strike since February 3 included senior residents among others. These doctors were also on a day long strike on January 22 this year.

Some of the demands of the striking doctors were rising assaults on them while on duty. The government has assured them that such attacks will be made a cognizable offence and a law will be enacted soon.

The other demands include faster promotions. The strike has been causing a lot of pain and inconvenience to patients across the hill state.

Many people however say the so called assaults on doctors is highly exaggerated.
