Gorkhas angry over monkey & dog slur by Himachal BJP MLA
Shimla : Under fire from protesting Nepalese in many parts of Himachal against an alleged racist remark by a state BJP legislator who was forced to apologise on the floor of the house here Monday for saying Gorkhas eat monkeys and dogs .
BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Ravi requested the speaker B B Butail to expunge from the record of the house the comments he made last week about Nepalese and Nagas eating habits .
Earlier in the day the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh burned the effigy of the Ravi in Dharmasala .
“We demand an apology from Ravi for his shocking remarks about Gorkhas and Nagas during a debate in the assembly on April 5 on how to control the menace of monkeys in the state,” a spokesman of the Gorkha organisation said .
Quoting his remarks , “If Gorkha or Naga regiments are posted in Himachal it will impact the population of monkeys . As monkeys was a Gorkha and Naga delicacy. Black dogs are a favourite food of Gorkhas .”
The Gorkha federation said it was shocked by this racist jibe and wanted the BJP president Rajnath Singh and the state assembly speaker B B Butail to take action against Ravi .
