23 die as bus plunges in Sangla

Shimla :A bus fell on the edge of a Himalayan river in Himachal Pradesh’s tribal Kinnaur district killing 23 and injuring 20 Thursday, police said, the toll could rise.

“23 people have been killed and 20 injured,” a spokesman of the state government said.

The bus was on its way from Kalpa village to the popular scenic tourist resort town of Sangla some 230 km from the state capital Shimla.

The bus was travelling on a narrow road with sharp hair-pin bends when the accident took place .

As the area is in a remote region bordering Tibet local officials airlifted six seriously injured to Shimla.

Eyewitness said the bus was lying at the edge of the icy Baspa river .
