Nathpa’s record power generation in a month
Shimla :Nathpa Jhakri the country’s largest hydro-electric project has set an all time record of power generation in a single month by producing over 1191 million units of electricity in July this year,a top company official said here Friday.
R P Singh chief of the project said the1500 MW Nathpa project operated on all 31 days last month and generated a whopping 1600 MW on all days which is higher than its maximum capacity.
The ten year project set this record by breaking the 1186 mu electricity generation record in July 2012.
In June and July due to heavy snow melting in the high mountains power generation is at its highest due to heavy water discharge in the Sutlej river.
Although the rapid melting can sometimes also bring high silt forcing to shut the power house. In the past four months the project has already generated 3352 mu of electricity .
The power station is supplying valuable power to the nine northern grid states of Haryana, Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Delhi.
Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) is a PSU jointly owned by Himachal and the Centre . Nathpa is its flagship project.
