Himachal launches national food security scheme
Shimla : Himachal Pradesh on Friday became the fifth state in the country to launch the national food security scheme calling it the Rajiv Gandhi Ann Yojna(RGAY) here Friday.
The programme was launched by the state chief minister Virbhadra Singh at Shimla’s Ridge ground. He handed a ration bag to 104 year old Mast Ram in the state capital.
Under the RGAY plan 37 lakh people will get 3 kg of wheat and 2 kg of rice at Rs 2 and Rs 3 per kg respectively. While the poor (anntodya families) will continue to get 20 kg of wheat and 15 kg of rice per month .
State food minister G S Bali said 70 per cent beneficiaries had been identified under the scheme and the rest will also be covered soon.
