Water released by dam in defiance of orders

imageShimla : The High Court of Himachal on Thursday directed the chief secretary, secretary home, DC, SP Kinnaur and GM Karcham Wangtu to file a fresh status report regarding defiance of court orders regarding release of water from a dam in the Sutlej river.

A bench CJ Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Sandeep Sharma passed these orders on a petition taken up suo moto by the court as PIL on a letter written to the CJ by Javier Top of Jharkhand who is posted in 68 RCC GRIEF in Kinnaur district.

The petitioner has alleged in the petition that on 24 July this year his son was fishing out in the river Satluj near Tapri.Water was released suddenly from Karchham Dam and he got swept away with the high current of water.

And since then the son of the petitioner is missing. The petitioner has further pointed out in the petition that on the project bridge there are check posts and security guards are posted around the clock.

Despite this his son was never cautioned by security guards regarding the rise in water level.

The petitioner has prayed to issue directions to state government and the company to carry out search for his missing son. The next hearing is on 5 Oct.
