Now buy varied imported timber in Himachal

Shimla : Apart from rich local timber people in Himachal Pradesh can now choose from a variety of foreign timber available through the state run forest corporation .

“Notable imported wood varieties available in the state are Malaysian sal , New Zealand pine , African sagwan , Nigerian teak , Australian wood , Meranti , Meranti wood , Red meranti among others,” the state’s forest minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri told the state assembly here Friday .

Asked about the number of registered furniture units in the state the forest minister said under the forest corporation there are currently 211 furniture units .

“Many of these units have also installed 57 saw mills . While others use smaller cutting blades to cut and saw timber,”he said .

Bharmouri also informed the house that there are 2215 registered furniture shops spread all over the state .

He clarified that tools used by carpenters to cut and saw wood at construction and furniture units were not required to be registered with the government .
