Folk singer Het Ram Tanwar no more

Shimla: Famous folk singer and President’s award winner Het Ram Tanwar passed away in his native village of Hatkot in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.

Reports reaching late here said Tanwar 84 was cremated on Wednesday.

Family sources said he was ailing for a while. He popularised Himachal pahari folk songs on All India Radio and Doordarshan for decades.He performed across the country and overseas.

He is also the grandfather of Kritika Tanwar of Indian idol fame on television. Many other family members of Tanwar are also singers including his son who have been performing at AIR Shimla.

Strangely despite Tomar’s huge stature in folk music world local newspapers have barely covered his death.
