BSNL to install 290 towers in Himachal

imageShimla : BSNL is getting ready to put up 290 BTS towers this year to strengthen its coverage across Himachal Pradesh.

“These 3 G towers will be put up from April to June,” M C Singh GM BSNL Shimla said Saturday.

“In addition to this 150 existing towers will be upgraded to 3 G,” Singh said.

In Spiti valley’s Dhankar monastery BSNL has installed a mobile tower which is solar charged and also has a satellite link.

BSNL also claims its lone tower in Losar in the valley is one of the most isolated towers in the state and closest to the China border.

The state run company claims it has 15.5 lakh mobile customers in the hill state. It also has over 2 lakh landline connections.

Tele density has now gone up to 122 per cent in Himachal Pradesh.
