Himachal set to amend luxury tax law

imageShimla : A bill was introduced Thursday in the Himachal Pradesh house to amend the evasion of luxury tax and speeding up growth.

The state’s excise minister Prakash Chaudhary presented the luxuries in hotel & lodging houses act 2014 for amendment of the existing 1979 act .

“The amendment will prevent leakage of tax and ensure revenue growth,” said the minister .

“After discussing with all stake holders and to prevent leakage of tax a need was felt to introduce a lump sum scheme compulsory to make provisions to introduce a lump sum scheme for payment of luxury tax,” said the excise minister .

According to the latest state economic survey there are currently 2,769 hotels across Himachal with 61,497 bed capacity registered with the tourism department .
