Suresh Rana wins the Raid for 9th time
Shimla :Yet again showing his dominance of the Raid-de-Himalaya car rally local boy Suresh Rana won the 15th edition of the race for a record ninth time in the extreme category, organisers said here Saturday .
Driving a Maruti Suzuki grand vitara came Rana had an overall timing of 9:46:23 over six days and 1800 km .The race began in Shimla and ended in Leh .
Sanjay Agarwal came second followed by Harpreet Bawa .
Jagmeet Gill was champion in the adventure trial four wheel and Helmut Frauwallner of Austria won the extreme section two wheel .
Out of the 75 cars, bikes and scooters that had entered the extreme category, 29 finished the rally – including all 5 participants in the newly created scooters category.
In the adventure trial category, out of the 62 cars were flagged off, 41 made it through the final leg of the rally.
The rally this year saw the extreme and adventure trial categories compete on two different routes.
The rally travelled through the highest altitudes in the world. Two of the highest motor able passes Wari La (5250 mts) and Khardung La (5602 mts) and highest human settlements in the world at Komik (4587 mts).
