Shimla MC office may be shifted to chakkar

Shimla : There is talk that the Shimla municipal corporation office may be shifted to the newly built court premises in chakkar .

The Raj era multi-storied civic body building on the Mall needs to be vacated for repairs and renovation .

Last year Himachal chief minister P.K.Dhumal had said the MC offices could be shifted down the Mall to Bantony building .

Then there was talk of moving it to the US club which currently houses several offices including the tourism department’s museum .

There are already voices of protest by the MC staff and others who don’t want to move to chakkar as it is on the outskirts of Shimla .

But moving out soon will be necessary whether it is chakkar or the US club as a lot of foreign funds are lying unspent for the renovation of this majestic building .

Many even want the municipal corporation to be permanently housed somewhere else and turn the current MC building on the mall into a museum .
