Kill a Himachal monkey earn Rs 500

img_1252Shimla: To motivate people to kill monkeys in some areas of Himachal Pradesh the state forest department has raised the amount to kill a monkey outside a forest from Rs 300 to Rs 500.

The state forest minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri said the amount for sterilising a monkey has also been raised from Rs 500 to Rs 700.

It is also decided to provide Rs 1000 per monkey where 80 per cent of the herd was caught in a particular area.

Monkeys have been declared vermin in Shimla town and some Tehsils of the state.

Vermin means wild animals which are believed to be harmful to crops, farm animals, game or which carry diseases.

Bharmouri said a grant would be provided to the villages where monkeys had been declared a vermin.

It is noteworthy that not a single person came forward to kill monkeys when permission was given for the first time.
