Himachal to boost adventure sports in tribal district

imageShimla :One of Himachal Pradesh’s remotest but most scenic areas Lahaul & Spiti will have more adventure and winter sports like trekking , river-rafting , skiing and mountaineering .

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said in the state assembly here Tuesday in reply to a question by the local legislator Ravi Thakur .

“Several areas have been identified to promote these activities. River-Rafting will be developed from Darcha to Jispa and in the Tabo monastery region . Also areas along the Bhaga and Spiti areas will be explored,” said Virbhadra .

“For rock climbing Jispa and for mountaineering Moolkila glacier have been identified ,” he said .

“Skiing will soon be held at Jispa , Kardam monastery , Sumnam , Wari , Trilokinath and Rangrik,” he said .

imageThe chief minister told the house that 14 new trekking routes have been identified across Lahaul & Spiti . Adding to the already existing and popular routes.

Much of this area remains cut-off from the outside world due to snow over the high passes which connect the district to the rest of the state .

One of the most sparsely populated regions in the entire country Lahaul & Spiti borders Jammu & Kashmir and Tibet .

The region is particularly popular with foreign tourists.
