Week wait for online Rohtang Pass permit!

Shimla: Many are puzzled by the Himachal Pradesh government’s decision that despite online booking for a vehicle permit to go to the Rohtang Pass, one will have to wait for at least a week to get a permit.

What about those tourists who make a last minute decision to go to the pass in their cars. They will now have to apply at least a week in advance.

After confirmation an SMS proof of the permit can be shown at the Gulaba barrier.

But on the other hand people are saying online booking may reduce corruption in giving permits.

According to the new policy 500 commercial vehicles from Manali, 100 commercial and 100 private vehicles from the other parts of the state and 300 outside vehicles can visit the Rohtang Pass daily.

Vehicles bound for Lahaul will not be covered by this. But thosemisusing the Lahaul permit will be heavily penalised, Kullu D C Rakesh Kanwar said.
