Mahindra launches mini tractor for hilly Himachal

Shimla :In an effort to fit into the narrow fields and orchards across Himachal Pradesh Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday launched its smallest tractor here.

“Named Yuvraj 215 it is an ideal vehicle for driving through the narrow lanes of Himachal. Suited for apple orchards as it can easily make its way between apple trees to carry out orchard operations,” said Sunil Johnson senior sales manager Mahindra & Mahindra here.

“The 15 hp tractor weighs 780 kg and costs ? 2.45 lakh and runs up to an hour on half a litre of diesel . It can pull a load of 1.5 tonnes ,” he said .

Mahindra claims it is the fastest tractor on the road and can reach speeds of 26 km per hour .

It also boasts of a water cooled single cylinder engine and side shift gear lever .

To start with the company is targeting selling at least 100 tractors a month .

Asked about reaching farms located in steep terrain , company officials said they would dismantle the machine and have it carried on the steep terrain and then assemble it .
