shimla snow jan 2013 009Shimla : Unlike last year this winter civic officials and other wings of the Himachal Pradesh government have luckily not scattered mud so far on the roads and streets after snowfall .

As compared to last year the response by the civic officials and other government machinery has been better with scores of Kashmiri labourers clearing the roads of snow.

This time JCBs and snow cutters have also been pressed into service in Shimla town .

When contacted Shimla mayor Sanjay Chauhan told Sun Post the civic authorities were avoiding throwing mud on snow .

Deputy mayor Tikender Panwar told Sun Post ,“We have ample stone dust , just let me know where mud is being thrown.”

Despite two days of bright sunshine normal life still remains disrupted due to heavy snowfall on Jan 17 and 18 , around half of the state continues to be cut off from the outside world by road .

Most of the snow bound areas are without electricity due to snapping of power cables and falling electric poles as a result of falling trees . Dozens of pine trees fell in the state capital Shimla causing frequent power failures .

The heaviest snow fell in tribal Kinnaur and adjoining Shimla district .

Police said five people have been killed in snow related incidents in Kinnaur . While three were buried at one place two others were crushed by a falling tree in a nearby area.
