Shimla: The state election commission on Monday decided to hold the Shimla municipal corporation election on June 16.
This came within hours after the high court ordered the commission to hold the civic polls latest by June 18.
On May 9 the commission had deferred the elections due to discrepancies in the voters list.The tenure of the current civic body ends on June 4.
Voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm. Voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm.Nomination papers can be filed from June 2 to June 5.Withdrawl of candidature is 8 June. Counting takes place on June 17.
Election symbols will be alloted to the candidates by the commission.The model code of conduct will remain in force till June 17.
This time half the seats have been reserved for women. Unlike last time the mayor and the deputy mayor will not be elected directly as the Congress government amended the law.
