Rohtang Pass opened for tourists

Shimla: The 13,050 ft high Rohtang Pass on Wednesday was thrown open to tourist vehicles visiting the famous snow covered pass.

But according to the orders of NGT only 1200 vehicles will be allowed each day, 800 petrol and 400 diesel engines.

Permits to visit the pass will be issued online on first come first serve basis. The fee for each vehicle will be Rs 500 and Rs 50 as congestion fee.

Residents of Lahaul & Spiti need not pay the permit fee but will have to pay Rs 50 congestion fee. But they will not be allowed to park on the pass.

The Border Roads Organisation is busy clearing this road to Leh which could still take many weeks.
