Among all great playback singers of the golden era 94 year old Manna Dey was perhaps the best trained in classical music.

Though highly accomplished he was also modest , when asked how he rated himself as compared to his contemporary Mohammad Rafi .

Without batting an eye he said , “ I have no doubt Rafi was a far better singer than me .”  “In fact I have learned a lot from Rafi sahib,” he said .

This MP3 collection “Manna Dey-Many Moods” by Saregama hardly does any justice to this highly versatile singer.

Out of the 40 songs I could pick only a handful of numbers which deserved to be included in this collection.

These are : Poochho na kaise maine , Tu pyar ka sagar hai ,Tujhe suraj kahoon ya chanda , Hansne ki chah ne kitna mujhe , Aye mere pyara watan , Mera sab kuchh mere geet re .

Laga chunari mein daag , Chham chham baje re payaliya , Har taraf ab yehi afsane hain, Ae bhai zara dekh ke chalo,Yaari hai imaan mera, Kasme wade pya wafa, Na mangun sona chandi, Aao twist karen .

Rest of the songs are forgettable in this collection .
