HLP still against Himachal ski village project : Maheshwar

ski villageShimla : Himachal Lokhit Party(HLP) chief Maheshwar Singh on Wednesday said he will continue to oppose the ski village project in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu valley amid reports of the state government preparing to allow the setting up of project .

 The Kullu MLA was responding to reports of the state government deciding to withdraw its petition against the setting up of the much delayed mega project .

 “We will continue to oppose the setting up of the Rs 1581 crore ski village project as it is against the culture and environment of the region ,”said Maheshwar Singh , a strong opponent of the project .

 “Manali already has enough hotels to accommodate tourists . But visitors cannot become owners of this fragile area so we will continue to oppose the project ,”said the HLP chief.

 Maheshwar Singh dismissed reports of joining the Congress party as a minister .

 “To become a minister I will not compromise on issues raised by the HLP during the past one year ,” he said .

 The HLP was formed over a year ago by some senior BJP leaders who left the party accusing the previous Dhumal led BJP regime of promoting corruption.

 “The HLP will not compromise on corruption . We want an assurance from the ruling Congress that Himachal will not to be sold out again ,”he said .

 “We will give the Congress around six months to fulfill all its promises made in its election manifesto ,”Maheshwar said.

 “The HLP had filed a charge sheet against the previous government and so had the Congress , now we want the Congress to act ,”he warned .

 The Kullu MLA also wanted the government to seriously fight the menace of wild animals including monkeys which were causing a lot of damage to farmers crops all over the state .
