“Besides selling our regular items available at our fair price shops this mall will also have other consumer products on sale,” the state food and civil supplies minister G S Bali said.
The shopping mall will come up at Bhatakufar at the edge of Shimla close to the fruit and vegetable market.
Bali said besides Shimla the food department plans to open two more shopping malls in the state but the locations have not yet been decided.
The minister said the income of the food department had risen by Rs 9.41 crore in the current fiscal year.
The food and civil supplies corporation also has hundreds of fair price shops spread across the hill state.
