Delhi-Leh bus 2014 back on the road

imageShimla :It takes three days and passes through some of the most spectacular mountain terrain in the country. After a gap of nine months the Himachal roadways popular Delhi-Leh bus service is back on the road.

The bus leaves Delhi at 4 pm on its 1015 km long journey and reaches Manali early next morning.

The arduous 475 km journey starts from Manali to Leh passing through snow covered high passes .These include the Rohtang pass 13,050 ft , the Baralacha pass 16,040 ft ,the Lachungla pass 16,600 ft and the Tanglangla pass 17,480 ft.

The second night halt is at Keylong headquarters of the tribal Lahaul valley .Three drivers are changed on the route to Leh in three days .The bus also operates from Leh to Delhi .

The one way bus fare this year has been fixed at Rs 1523 .

Himachal roadways officials say with the resumption of this bus service this weekend advanced bookings has begun particularly by foreigners .

The Manali-Leh road remains closed for much of the year due to heavy snow on this high altitude road.
