imageShimla: It could still take more than a week for the majestic Rohtang pass to be opened for tourist traffic.

Although the Border Roads Organisation(BROs) have cleared the pass from both sides for light vehicles over the weekend. It will still take time for the 13,050 ft high pass to be thrown open to tourist vehicles.

Last year the pass opened for normal traffic in late April. But this time the snow was heavier and work is still on to clear the road on both sides of the pass to allow light and heavy vehicles.

The Rohtang Pass is one of the most popular sites for tourists visiting the scenic Kullu valley.

The state government has already restricted the number of vehicles driving up from Manali towards the pass to only 1000 per day.

It remains closed for half the year.
