Shimla : An area of 200 sq metres should be enough to build a house in the state capital while in all other towns of Himachal Pradesh it is 150 sq m.

This was stated in the state assembly Monday by the urban development minister Sudhir Sharma here in reply to a question by Kullu legislator Maheshwar Singh .

The minister said according to the amended policy of 2011 even in popular tourist resorts like Manali and Kullu 150 sq m was enough to build a house .

Maheshwar Singh expressed surprise that the state government did not have a uniform policy throughout the state .

He said 150 sq metres was certainly not enough to build a house as half of this area was needed for leaving setbacks on both sides of the house .

200 sq metres is 5.33 ‘biswas’. One ‘biswa’ is equal to 37.50 sq m .
