14 dead in Himachal accident

imageShimla: The death toll of the bus accident in Himachal Pradesh has doubled to 14 and forty one are injured,officials said Sunday.

The accident took place late Saturday when an overloaded mini bus rolled into a gorge near Jogindernagar some 250 km from the provincial capital.Killing seven on the spot.

“The death toll has risen to 14 while forty one others are injured,”  Sandeep Kadam  D C Mandi said Sunday.

“The accident took place due to overcrowding,” said Karam Singh a survivor .

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Tanda and Jogindernagar.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has flown in to see the injured and meet the families of victims Sunday. He has announced Rs 500,000 (Rs 5 lakh) as relief to the families of the dead. The injured will be treated free.
