12 youth die in Himachal jeep crash

Shimla : Twelve people were killed when a vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s mountainous Chamba district , police said Monday .

 The incident took place around midnight when the vehicle (Bolero jeep) fell into a 700 metre deep gorge in the remote Bharmour area of Chamba district some 450 km from the state capital Shimla . The spot is 85 km from Chamba town .

 “Twelve people died on the spot , the bodies were recovered by rescue teams in the dark by 2 am .The post mortem will be carried out on the spot today ,”said B.R.Kamal , ADM Chamba .

 “The dead were locals  between the ages of 9 and 29 ,” he said .

 They were returning after playing a cricket match in the area , locals said .
